Skeptical Timotheus, drafted to accompany the local bishop to the Nicene Council  in 325 A.D., walks the rural paths and ancient Roman roads from Macedonia to Nicaea in Bithynia. Walk with him while over-the-road conversations, startling roadside adventures, and amazing fellow-travelers occupy his attention.

Walk with him and his bishop into the Nicene Council. There he encounters Emperor Constantine and the many bishops who are struggling with “right doctrine.” Puzzled by the theological language, astonished at the exactness required by the church fathers, and challenged by the newly-formed creed, he is thrown into a personal crisis by the Emperor’s bans.

Through it all, Timotheus develops a mature understanding of the Christian faith, finally seeing that, under the new creed, this new faith is ready to take on the world. He is witness to the struggles and agonizing human decisions as Christ prepares His church to become an effective world religion.
