Who We Are
A true publishing partner for authors.
Black Rose Writing began in 2006 with a simple belief: great stories deserve a chance to find their readers, and authors deserve a publishing partner who genuinely believes in their work.
Our Story
Founded in Texas by Reagan Rothe, Black Rose Writing was shaped by Reagan's own experiences as a published author. Having experienced the publishing process firsthand, he recognized both the aspects that made publishing rewarding and the areas where authors deserved something better. He brought those lessons together to create a publishing company built around the best parts of traditional publishing, while offering a more personal, collaborative, and supportive experience.
From the beginning, Reagan envisioned something more than a publishing house. He wanted to create a close-knit community where authors felt like part of a family rather than simply another name on a book cover. A place where relationships mattered, communication was encouraged, and every author knew there were real people behind the scenes who cared about their success.
What began as a small independent venture has grown into an established publishing house representing authors across fiction, nonfiction, and children's literature. Despite that growth, we've worked hard to preserve the personal attention and family-like atmosphere that have defined Black Rose Writing from the start. We celebrate our authors' accomplishments, support their creative ambitions, and take pride in building relationships that extend well beyond publication day.
Unlike pay-to-publish operations, Black Rose Writing does not charge authors publication fees. We select manuscripts we believe in, work closely with authors to prepare them for publication, and earn our share through book sales. Our authors receive traditional royalties, professional publishing support, and access to broad retail and library distribution.
As publishing has evolved, so have we. Today, our approach combines professional editing and design, print-on-demand technology, digital and audiobook distribution, targeted advertising, review outreach, and promotional opportunities designed to help books build lasting readership. We embrace the advantages of modern publishing without losing the personal connections that make the experience meaningful.
Our catalog includes award-winning novels, bestselling series, compelling memoirs, thought-provoking nonfiction, and imaginative books for younger readers. But beyond the accolades and sales, what matters most is the community we've built and the trust our authors place in us.
More than twenty years after our founding, our mission remains the same: publish books we believe in, treat authors like family, and connect remarkable stories with readers everywhere. Because at Black Rose Writing, publishing isn't just about books. It's about the people behind them.
